Women’s Socio-Economic Empowerment Program
The Women’s Socio-Economic Empowerment Program aims to strengthen the economic independence and leadership of rural women in Budondo Sub-County. The program provides vocational and life skills training in areas such as tailoring, crafts, agribusiness, and ICT, equipping women and youth with employable skills that enhance household income, foster self-reliance, and reduce dependency.
To promote financial inclusion, the program establishes and supports Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and microfinance groups, enabling women and youth to gain access to savings, credit, and financial literacy, thereby enhancing financial security and reducing vulnerability to economic shocks.
The program also offers entrepreneurship and business management training, providing participants with the knowledge to initiate or expand small-scale businesses, maintain proper record-keeping, and manage finances effectively. Market linkage support is provided to connect women-led enterprises with local markets, cooperatives, and buyers, resulting in increased sales, income, and competitiveness of their products and services. Additionally, leadership and decision-making capacity building empowers women leaders through training in advocacy, negotiation, and governance, increasing their representation in community decision-making platforms and strengthening their voices in policy dialogues.
Through these integrated activities, the program seeks to promote sustainable livelihoods, improved economic security, and active participation of women in local governance and community development.
